OPTIMUS representative Katarina Milanovic successfully finalized the third, regional phase of the International Training Program on Efficient Energy Use and Planning which took part in April 2015 in Tirana, Albania. The Program is financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and implemented by the LIFE Academy. Total 25 representatives of the public sector, non-governmental organizations and private sector from Albania, Georgia, Ukraine, Kosovo and Serbia participated in the training.

During the training, accent was placed on two areas: present situation and good practice examples in Albania, and progress of Change projects, implemented by the participants in their respective countries, as part of the wide Program.

Participants had an opportunity to visit Albanian Ministry of Energy and Industry. After welcome words, Deputy Minister, Mr. Ilir Bejtja, stressed that of highest importance is to bring countries in the Region work on common energy efficiency agenda. Furthermore, Mr. Gjergji Simaku, Director at the Department of Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency and Mr. Ardian Islami - RES & EE Specialist presented to participants an overview of the energy efficiency situation and policies in Albania.

Besides an overview of achieved results of the development cooperation between Sweden and Albania, representative of the Embassy of Sweden in Tirana, Ms. Lisa Fredriksson, presented to participants priority areas and strategic directions of Sweden support to Western Balkan Region by 2020. A central component of the Program is the participant´s own Change Project addressing a relevant problem within the energy efficiency scope in each respective country. In this context, OPTIMUS implements the Project “With Capacity, Awareness and Knowledge towards Energy Efficiency – CAKEE” with the overall goal to contribute to improving EE in Serbia through setting the ground for successful energy efficiency at the local level and improved behavior of the public.

All participants, including Katarina Milanovic, presented Change project results and activities so far, with a short overview of planned activities in period to come. In addition, through the group work, participants had an opportunity to identify the most important problems in their respective countries and prepare Road map for their solutions in improving the energy efficiency situation.
