Awareness on the effects of energy efficiency is the first step towards improving and saving energy

OPTIMUS - Center for Good Governance, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), within the project "With capacities, awareness and knowledge towards energy efficiency", organized two training modules "Energy efficiency and energy management information system" on 27 February 2015, in the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities. One of the specific objectives of the Project is to build capacities of non-governmental organizations on the importance of energy efficiency, to which these training modules have significantly contributed. Trainings were attended by 14 representatives of 4 non-governmental organizations.

The training was held by Ms. Maja Matejić, UNDP Portfolio Manager for Energy. Under the first training module, Ms Matejic introduced the concept of energy, energy balance, energy of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the concept of energy efficiency and energy efficiency in specific fields. The second module included the legal and institutional framework for energy efficiency in Serbia, energy management, as well as demonstration of an information system for energy management in public buildings - tool for monitoring, analyzing and reporting on energy and water consumption in all types of public and commercial buildings.

Ms. Matejic spoke about examples of good practices and the ways by which we can influence the energy efficiency. It was interesting to hear which renewable resources are favorable for Serbia and many attendees were surprised by the fact that Serbia, as a developing country, should focus on use of biomass, in spite of the widespread opinion that the main opportunities lay in solar and wind energy. Attendees had the opportunity to see examples of good practice in the Kingdom of Sweden, which is among the top countries in Europe when it comes to efficient energy use.

Project "With Capacity, Awareness and Knowledge towards Energy Efficiency - CAKEE" is implemented by OPTIMUS - Center for Good Governance as part of the advanced training Program "Efficient use of energy and planning" funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency - Sida, and implemented by LIFE Academy, in collaboration with the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Regional Agency for Energy Varmland.

In order to achieve the best effects of the Project, OPTIMUS has established successful cooperation with UNDP Serbia, which implements energy efficiency programs for years in Serbia and the Region. We thank UNDP for the support in realization of this project activity.

We also thank the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities for logistical support in organizing these trainings.
