OPTIMUS representative Katarina Milanovic successfully finalized the second phase of the International Training Program on Efficient Energy Use and Planning which took part in Sweden this autumn. The Program is financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and implemented by the LIFE Academy. Total 27 participants, representing public sector, non-governmental organizations and private sector from Albania, Georgia, Ukraine, Kosovo and Serbia participated in the training.
The Program was divided into five interlinked modules: Sustainable Energy Systems, Tools for Situation Analysis, Tools for Energy Efficiency Work in Practice, Implementation of Energy Efficiency and Change Project and Processes of Change. Different training methods, such as lectures, study visits, group discussions and individual work were used to facilitate learning and interchange of experience.
Participants had an opportunity to visit Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Regional Energy Agency of Värmland, Swedish Energy Agency, Karlstad Municipality and other institutions, companies and organizations representing the best practices in energy efficiency field. They were introduced by the Swedish extensive experience of using various policy measures in order to promote sustainable energy and reduce impact of energy use on the environment. As a result, Sweden has managed to continue growing economically during a range of years at the same time as the energy use has decreased.
A central component of the Program is the participant´s own Change Project addressing a relevant problem within the energy efficiency scope. In this context, OPTIMUS will implement the Project “With Capacity, Awareness and Knowledge towards Energy Efficiency – CAKEE” with the overall goal to contribute to improving EE in Serbia through setting the ground for successful energy efficiency at the local level and improved behavior of the public. Expected results of the Project are: 1)built capacities of 10 NGO professionals in the energy efficiency field; 2) Energy efficiency awareness rose among 60 school children and their teachers in 3 schools and among general public; 3) specific local EE needs identified and 1-2 project concept notes for applying energy efficiency measures at the local level created.
